Security built around how your healthcare environment operates

A busy A&E department, GP practice, private clinic and community health centre will not need the same security arrangement. Innovative Security Solutions starts by understanding where staff are seeing problems, how patients and visitors move through the premises, which areas need controlled access, when incidents are most likely to occur and what security is expected to do when a situation becomes difficult.

From there, we shape the service around the way the healthcare environment actually works. That might mean a permanent officer presence, support at particular times, patrols, access control or an agreed response when an incident develops.

DIRECT EMPLOYMENT
Directly employed security teams

Our officers are employed directly by Innovative Security Solutions. We do not rely on subcontracted guarding. That gives us greater control over recruitment, training, site familiarisation, supervision and the standards delivered on site, while helping officers become familiar with the site, its normal routines and the people they are there to support.

Different healthcare settings create different security pressures

A busy hospital, GP practice, private clinic and community healthcare setting will not all need the same security arrangement. We look at how patients, visitors and staff use the premises, where access needs tighter control, when incidents or difficult behaviour are creating pressure and where staff need security support.

Hospitals, A&E & urgent care

Hospitals and emergency-care environments can combine high footfall, 24/7 operation, visitors, patients who may be distressed or anxious, restricted clinical areas and frequent need for security support. Our officers work around the live healthcare operation, maintaining access control and providing a clear response when staff need assistance.

GP practices & health centres

GP practices and health centres are smaller public-facing environments where reception and clinical teams may need support with appointment disputes, difficult behaviour, access concerns or situations that escalate quickly. We shape the security arrangement around the times and issues creating the actual pressure, rather than assuming a permanent security presence is always required.

Clinics, outpatient & specialist healthcare

Private clinics, outpatient services and specialist healthcare settings often combine planned appointments with controlled treatment areas, staff-only spaces and smaller on-site teams. We support access, visitors and staff around the way the premises operate rather than applying a hospital-style security model.

Community, private & multi-site healthcare

Community healthcare facilities, private healthcare premises and organisations operating across several locations can have very different requirements from site to site. We can maintain consistent procedures, reporting and escalation across the organisation while keeping deployment and site instructions specific to each healthcare environment.

Keeping movement controlled without getting in the way of care

Healthcare sites need to stay easy for patients and visitors to access, while keeping clinical, staff-only and restricted areas secure. Our officers support normal movement through the site and check or escalate anything outside the agreed access arrangements.

01

Public entrances & reception

Patients, relatives, visitors and other members of the public may arrive for very different reasons. Our officers support the normal flow through entrances and reception areas while remaining alert to access concerns, difficult or disruptive behaviour and situations where reception or clinical staff need security support.

02

Clinical & restricted areas

Treatment rooms, wards, staff areas, pharmacies, stores and other controlled parts of the premises may have specific access arrangements. Our officers work to those permissions and challenge or escalate attempts to enter areas that are not open to the individual concerned.

03

Staff & out-of-hours access

Healthcare staff may arrive and leave outside normal public opening hours, particularly on 24/7 sites, during early clinics or when reduced teams are working. Our officers work to the agreed staff-access arrangements and check or escalate access where somebody is entering outside the normal pattern or through areas that are not generally open at that time.

04

Contractors, deliveries & service access

Engineers, maintenance teams, couriers, suppliers and other service providers may need access to service routes, staff-only areas or parts of the premises that are not open to the public. We work to the agreed authorisation process so access is controlled without unnecessarily disrupting clinical or operational activity.

A security response that supports healthcare staff

When an incident happens in a healthcare environment, normal activity often needs to continue around it. Staff may still be treating patients, people may be waiting nearby and public areas may remain open. Our officers respond to the security issue, support staff and help restore control without unnecessarily increasing tension or interrupting healthcare.

01

Calm, proportionate intervention

Our officers assess what is happening and respond at the level the situation requires, with the aim of restoring control without unnecessarily increasing tension around patients, staff or visitors.
02

Supporting staff when behaviour escalates

Where staff are dealing with aggression, threatening behaviour or another security concern, officers can provide an immediate security presence and follow the site’s agreed response and escalation arrangements.
03

Escalation, handover & reporting

Where further action is required, officers involve the appropriate healthcare contact, control room, police or emergency service in line with the agreed procedure, and record what happened for the relevant client team.

Security services matched to how the healthcare site operates

The service should reflect where the pressure actually sits. That may mean a permanent officer presence, reception support, patrols, CCTV or an agreed response outside normal hours. Innovative Security Solutions looks at where incidents are occurring, how public and restricted areas are managed, when staff need immediate support and where additional visibility or response is needed.

THE SERVICE IS SUPPORTED BEYOND THE OFFICERS ON SITE

01

Control room support

Our officers have direct access to the control room when an incident, access issue or unexpected situation needs operational support or escalation.

02

Supervision & site checks

Our supervisors and managers remain involved in the live service, checking officer performance, deployment, site instructions and whether the security arrangement is continuing to meet the needs of the healthcare site.

03

Emergency & evacuation procedures

Our officers are briefed on the site’s emergency and evacuation procedures, including the agreed routes, assembly arrangements, key contacts and the role security is expected to support during an incident. Where procedures change, the team is updated accordingly.

04

Healthcare team coordination

Our control room, supervisors and managers stay in contact with the relevant healthcare, estates, facilities or site-management contacts so operational changes, recurring incidents, access issues and temporary arrangements are reflected in the security service.

05

Reporting & incident visibility

Incidents, actions and service activity are recorded and reported to the relevant client contacts. Where the same issue occurs repeatedly, we raise the pattern with the client so the security arrangement can be reviewed rather than repeatedly responding to the same problem.

Healthcare

Security support within a busy Birmingham A&E environment

A Birmingham hospital required dedicated security support within its A&E department, where anti-social behaviour, aggression and conflict were creating additional pressure for clinical and reception teams. Innovative Security Solutions worked with hospital management to understand the environment before deploying SIA-licensed security officers into the department.

Let’s look at what your healthcare site needs from security

If you are reviewing security for a hospital, GP practice, health centre, clinic or other healthcare environment, we can look at where incidents are occurring, how access is managed, when staff are most likely to need support and what level of security presence or response is right for the site.
