24/7 security supporting a safer Birmingham city-centre parking facility
A major Birmingham parking facility was experiencing recurring unauthorised access and drug-related activity that was affecting the environment for customers and employees. Innovative Security Solutions introduced continuous security guarding across the facility, providing a 24/7 security presence able to monitor activity, record incidents and intervene when unauthorised or disruptive behaviour was identified. Following deployment, the project record describes a reduction in both unauthorised entry and drug-related activity within the facility.

Restoring control across a continuously accessible public environment
The parking facility remained accessible throughout the day and night, with customers, employees, pedestrians and vehicles moving through the environment.
Management was dealing with recurring unauthorised entry and drug-related activity. Some individuals were also entering the facility for shelter without authorisation.
The requirement was for a continuous security presence capable of maintaining awareness across the facility and responding when activity affected the safe and orderly operation of the site.
Security therefore needed to operate 24 hours a day rather than being limited to the facility's busiest periods.
Continuous guarding with a clear response function
Innovative Security Solutions introduced 24/7 security guarding across the parking facility.
Officers were positioned at agreed areas of the site and maintained a visible presence throughout their shifts.
Their role centred on four practical responsibilities.
24/7 security presence
Security officers were available throughout the day and night, providing continuous coverage across the facility.
Monitoring activity
Officers maintained awareness of people and activity within the parking environment, paying particular attention to unauthorised access and behaviour that required further investigation.
Incident recording
Where incidents occurred, security personnel recorded the relevant details so recurring issues could be identified and reported.
Intervention
Where unauthorised or disruptive activity was identified, officers were able to intervene and manage the situation rather than allowing the behaviour to continue unchecked.
Security operating around the facility throughout the day and night
The security team worked around a live parking operation with continuous vehicle and pedestrian movement.
Officers maintained their presence throughout each shift while remaining alert to people entering or using the facility for reasons unrelated to legitimate parking activity.
Where behaviour required attention, officers could investigate and intervene.
Incidents were recorded as part of the security operation, providing management with greater visibility of the activity affecting the site.
Maintaining the deployment around the clock also meant that the facility retained an active security response during quieter periods when unauthorised activity could otherwise have gone unchallenged.
Reduced unauthorised activity within the facility
The published project record describes a reduction in unauthorised entry and drug-related activity following the introduction of continuous security guarding.
Client value
- The deployment provided the parking operator with:
- continuous 24/7 security guarding
- a visible security presence across the facility
- active monitoring of unauthorised and disruptive activity
- incident recording and reporting
- an immediate security response when intervention was required
- a recorded reduction in unauthorised entry and drug-related activity
- The facility subsequently received national recognition for the quality of its parking environment. This should be presented as wider context rather than attributed directly to the security deployment.
